About Us

Located in Rockford, Illinois, we have been family owned for over 45 years serving customers throughout the Midwest.

DB Metal Finishing was proudly founded by Richard "Dick" Leonardson in 1963, which makes us almost 50 years old. Back in the 1960’s, Dick was one of the Midwest’s premiere deburring experts and it’s deburring that started us in business but at that time, we were known as Dyna-Burr Corporation.

In 1973, Mechanical Plating was added as another process and it was Mechanical Plating that caused explosive growth for us. In the 1970’s, Mechanical Plating was a relatively new process and we’re proud to say we were one of the first job shops to offer Mechanical Plating. To this day, we still have one of the largest Mechanical Plating departments and we’re still the "founding father" expert in this field.

In 1979, we moved to our present facility at 1310 Samuelson Road in Rockford, IL and the building was then a 15,600 sq.ft. building. The purpose of the move was to enhance our venture into barrel Electroplating. Our first barrel Electroplating line began operation in Dec., 1979 and once again we grew exponentially. Over the years we added more barrel lines and eventually a Rack Electroplating line. From 1979 to 1998, we expanded the building 3 times now making this facility 58,000 sq.ft.

In 2004, we added "Plant 2" which is located behind "Plant 1" and consists of 78,000 sq.ft. at 4080 East Street in Rockford. Once again we expanded our processes by installing a Rack E-Coating Line. We now have five (5) huge automatic Barrel Electroplating Lines, two (2) huge automatic Rack Electroplating Lines, One (1) Rack E-Coating Line and a very large Mechanical Plating department consisting of two (2) 20 cu.ft. barrels and three (3) 10 cu.ft. barrels.

The ‘second generation’ of "Leonardson’s" have taken over the day-to-day operations of both plants and are making DB Metal Finishing an even better and more technologically advanced company. We intend to continue growing and serving our customers for many more years to come.

Although plating/coating is the product we sell, our best offering is our service, quality and customer care. Like one of our customers recently said about us, "we’re the best and easiest to work with". That statement fulfills a portion of our Mission Statement, which states:
